3 Rules for Managing a Job Interview Like a Shark

3 Rules for Managing a Job Interview Like a Shark You don't should test out business thoughts to Mark Cuban to be in the Shark Tank. The uncontrollably well known TV show brings you into the universe of contributing and business. As an enrollment specialist, you assume the job of a Shark during every single prospective employee meet-up. You plunk down with possibility to talk about their expectations and decide whether they're the correct accomplice for your organization. This is a make-it-or-break-it second for everybody. You're not simply searching for somebody with the correct abilities and experience. You likewise need to think about social fit, character, and excitement, among other key viewpoints. To add to the weight, ability procurement isn't generally self-evident. In any case, it's important that you're putting resources into the opportune individuals to assemble a solid workforce so we requested that a couple of specialists share their little-known techniques. To be the best selecting Shark during a prospective employee meeting, here are three guidelines to follow: 1.Keep the prospective employee meet-up on target So as to keep up a decent parity in the meeting, I put forth the attempt to be as immediate as could reasonably be expected. I disclose to them that I need to become familiar with somewhat about what their identity is, however for the most part need to concentrate on the job and how their experience best fits into what my employing supervisor needs. I advise them that this methodology is to their greatest advantage. On the off chance that we have an extraordinary discussion however I don't land the basic position related data the supervisor needs, this isn't going to go anyplace. The best things scouts can do to keep the meeting on target is to inform the competitor that there's a sure measure of time allocated for this gathering, at that point set the pace before the discussion starts. Tell the up-and-comer that the #interview has time limitations, at that point set the pace. Snap To Tweet In the event that you sit back, neglect to get ready, and anticipate an easygoing discussion, that is actually what you will get. The applicant, who was provided zero guidance, will go thinking about something else attempting to build up an association with you and oversell their experience simultaneously. You'll have gone through 30+ minutes gesturing and saying 'uh-huh,' and toward the end have nothing of significant worth that you can present to the recruiting chief. Pamela Shand, CEO of Offer Stage Consulting 2. Know the don'ts of talking Dont ask hypotheticals. For instance, dont ask an applicant, Here is our concern, how might you fathom it? This is setting everybody up to fall flat. Without information on your way of life, past, current ventures, and needs, it is highly unlikely they can respond to this inquiry in a significant manner. Adhere to their past and not speculative fates search for important examples by they way they approach things, tackle activities, and issue explain utilizing genuine models. Likewise, dont attempt to psychoanalyze except if you are a psychoanalyst. Individuals can for the most part investigate themselves pretty precisely, yet without parcels and loads of preparing, we are horrible at breaking down others so dont do it. Dont pose inquiries like, If you were a tree, what sort of tree would you be and why? This was a real issue utilized by a past manager of mine who truly thought it gave them incredible knowledge into the individual. Rather, pose inquiries such that causes them to dissect themselves. For instance, Why did you pick your major? or on the other hand What attracted you to go after this job?. Pose inquiries that urge interviewees to break down themselves. #HR #tips Snap To Tweet Obviously, in a prospective employee meeting, individuals will in general mention to you what they think you need to hear, yet on the off chance that you take responds to from questions like these and contrast it with their accounts from an earlier time, you ought to have the option to check whether its at any rate predictable or not. Reid Givens, Director of Marketing at ClockShark 3. Decide fit for the two sides You have to know who the customer is. Since they cover the tab, you have to match, screen, and qualify up-and-comers dependent on their models. Know your customer's needs. At that point you can utilize their rules during the #interview to decide fit. Snap To Tweet Get extraordinary models when talking competitors that fit the measures and take care of the customer's concern. During the prospective employee meet-up, you have to figure out how to keep up an equalization of tuning in to dreams and objectives, while checking whether the applicant is the correct accomplice for your customer. This is a workmanship, not a science. Utilize all the information and data you accumulate from the two sides to decide whether it's the correct fit. At that point, you have to make a careful decision. Andy Miller, Founder of BrainWorks How would you take on the Shark job during a prospective employee meeting? Tell us!

Your guide to managing intergenerational conflict Viewpoint careers advice blog

Your guide to managing intergenerational conflict Workforces are becoming more age diverse. In fact, by 2020, it is estimated that there will be five generations of employees working together. Moreover, this trend is making its way into the upper echelons of businesses around the world; with more and more Millennials rising through the ranks and earning their seat at the leadership table, sat beside the Baby Boomers and the Generation Xers. Effectively nurturing and leading an age diverse team can be a tough balancing act. I personally am a Generation X leader who manages a range of ages, and I know from my own experience that if lead well, such a diverse team of perspectives and thoughts can be hugely conducive to an open and innovative dialogue and thus positive business outcomes. However, if managed poorly, multi-generational conflict can occur, having the opposite effect. The key is to identify the disparities causing intergenerational tension within your leadership team. Every team of leaders will be different. However, the vast research on the subject of multigenerational management, plus the lessons I’ve learnt during my own career, point to common and recurring differences; from communication styles, to technological fluency. My advice would be to look out for these differences, and respond accordingly: 1. Identify the sources of miscommunication Whilst everybody will differ on an individual basis, it is widely believed that of the three generations, Baby Boomers are the most inclined to communicate face-to-face. There’s no denying that Millennial leaders, on the other hand, grew up with the advent of social media, and are fluent in the quickest, most efficient ways to talk to one another digitally. In fact, in a survey conducted by PWC, over 40 percent of Millennials said they would prefer to electronically communicate at work, as opposed to communicating in-person or even via a phone call. On the other hand, Generation X are largely thought to be the most independent, “silent” workers. As Bruce Tulgan, author of “Managing Generation X: How to Bring out the Best in Young Talent” explains, Generation X are “the great under-supervised generation. They came into the workplace at a time when everybody was telling employees ‘You’ll have to take responsibility for your own successes’.” So, this generation of leader may have a tendency to be quite minimalist in their communications, sticking to email, speaking on the phone or arranging a face-to-face meeting as and when necessary. Taking all of this this into consideration, there could be clashes when a multi-generational team of leaders need to collaborate. For instance, some leaders may expect to have biweekly meetings followed up by minutes and clear action points, other may expect to correspond solely via email, and the rest may want to work in silo. My advice here is that you need to set the standard right from the beginning. Of course, the “right” way of communicating will differ on a task-by-task basis, therefore each time your team of leaders need to work together, be crystal clear on how you envisage them communicating. This will ensure that every time leaders need to collaborate, communications are streamlined and differences are put aside. 2. Embrace every perspective Naturally, each generation of leader will have a different view of how best to meet the needs of the business. For example, and as I mention in a previous blog; one merit of young leaders (especially if recently promoted) is that they will naturally have a stronger affinity to their junior former peers â€" it wasn’t so long ago, that they were part of the team. They may therefore have a better understanding of both employees on the frontline, as well as the changing demands and expectations of your customers. This will impact upon the ideas and solutions they bring to the table. On the other hand, it may have been quite some time since the Baby Boomer and Generation X leaders worked so close to the coal face of the business, making it sometimes more difficult for them to understand a Millennial leader’s standpoint or perspective. Look out for these differing points of view when your team of leaders have discussions. Encourage an open debate between them, but ensure every leader is able to say their piece. A huge source of intergenerational conflict, can stem from one generation feeling like they aren’t being heard. I have found that Millennial leaders can sometimes be less forthcoming in their ideas due to their relative lack of leadership experience. So, it’s important to try to champion them, giving them their platform as voices of tomorrow. 3. Establish a mutual respect Cultivating and demonstrating mutual respect between colleagues is a common issue within a multi-generational leadership team, particularly between the Baby Boomers and the younger members of Generation X/Millennials. Management professor Nicholas Pearce, outlines how Baby Boomers tend to respect hierarchy and tenure of position within that hierarchy. By default, younger Generation X and Millennial leaders are often new to their positions, thus won’t be granted this respect as readily. Conversely “Generation Xers and Millennials are more likely to give respect to those who are seen as deservingâ€"regardless of where they fit in the organisation’s hierarchy”. Observe the dynamic between your leaders during your next leadership meeting, particularly if one generation is overly dismissive toward the other; ignoring their opinions or interrupting them. Make sure you leverage and commend the skills of every leader, emphasising how these skills contribute to the wider goals of the organisation. This should help to unify your leadership team, and value one another’s expertise. 4. Encourage work-life balance Lastly, it is widely believed that boomers make for competitive, industrious, results driven leaders. A report  written by the AMA claims that Baby Boomers will place career above their personal life, continuing part time work even after retirement. On the other hand, the common consensus is that Generation Xers and Millennials see work-life balance as an important prerequisite for job satisfaction. In fact, according to a number of our What Workers Want reports from around the world, these generations place this of far higher importance than Baby Boomers. Therefore, it’s not unusual for a multi-generational team of leaders to judge one another’s working hours, holiday usage or how much time they spend working during downtime. The way to overcome these tensions, once again, is by having a clear stance on work-life balance, and encouraging the workaholics to switch off outside of office hours. As I say in the beginning, I am aware of the fact that there will be outliers within and crossovers between each generation. The above are not intended to be sweeping statements about every member of each generation, but observations derived from my own personal experience, complimented by   credible research based on multigenerational conflict in the workplace. As the leader of a multi-generational team of leaders, it is your job to understand everybody’s differences and orchestrate between them, in order to reach an inclusive and harmonious leadership discourse. Like I said in the beginning, soon there will be five generations of employee within the workplace and with this growth in age diversity, comes a greater need for collaborative leaders who can put their differences to one side for the good of the business. Therefore I would advise that you get a head start. Want to further hone your leadership skills? Our leadership tips and advice will help you become the leader you want to be Seven ways to keep your team motivated when times get tough Four things you should be doing to restore proactivity in your team How to overcome the disconnect between management and employees Want to develop your team? Think Grammar Doesnt Matter Think Again!

Think Grammar Doesnt Matter Think Again! With regards to language structure and spelling botches, there are typically two sorts of individuals: the individuals who see it and the individuals who dont. On the off chance that you are an individual from the last gathering, it is somewhat similar to being visually challenged. You know there is a distinction when it is called attention to you, however it truly doesnt stick out enough to take note. Not at all like being visually challenged, however, there are things you can do about improving your punctuation and spelling. It truly is an expertise you have to chip away at in light of the fact that it will influence all of you through your profession. The explanation you have to deal with composing precisely is on the grounds that the primary gathering of individuals (truly, I concede, I am one of those overbearing kinds), are the ones who see punctuation and spelling mix-ups and cant help seeing them. They know, since they are told, that punctuation and spelling dont matter to many, however it makes a difference to them. Since it is important to them, it influences the manner in which they see an expert who makes a great deal of sentence structure and spelling botches they see an amateurish who doesnt care about subtleties and may not work superbly. All the counsel on the most proficient method to maintain a strategic distance from botches when composing your resume and introductory letters applies to your business composing, as well. Indeed, even official resume journalists commit errors, however when composing things that influence their activity they cautiously put forth a valiant effort to address botches by editing and utilizing apparatuses like spellcheck. The apparatuses are restricted, so the human needs to focus or an inappropriate (effectively spelled) word could be utilized. All the keeping in touch with you accomplish for your work environment ought to be edited on the grounds that it turns into a changeless record mirroring your capacities to impart just as the genuine data in the material. At whatever point I hear somebody state that spelling doesnt matter, I consider Dan Quayle and potato. In 1992, Mr. Quayle was the Vice President of the United States, doing the best occupation he could. He was a visitor aide at a spelling honey bee, utilizing a blaze card with potatoe on it, and revised an understudies spelling of potato by proposing it required the e toward the end. It is anything but difficult to Google this episode, and you would perceive what that little error did to his political profession since it gave his faultfinders a reason to excuse his capacities. Presently, Mr. Quayle was not in a situation to edit right at that point. In any case, you for the most part can be cautious with the keeping in touch with you accomplish for business purposes. You can begin to chip away at your syntax and spelling abilities, as well, by checking things that dont look right. There are numerous useful (and free) online exercises to exploit. On the off chance that you realize you are one of the individuals who dont see the slip-ups, accept you are making a few and do what you can to address it. One of the most well-known spelling mistakes I see is trough for administrator. I likely notification this the most on the grounds that I used to make it constantly! Trough is a real word so it was never remedied by spell check. Fortunately, Microsoft Word has devices you can utilize and change in accordance with get your most generally incorrectly spelled words. Spelling matters, so make a point to have a second arrangement of eyes on your work!

Might we be able to call them all accomplices? 1Or to put it another way: how far will individuals go in obeying guidelines in the event that it includes hurting another person? To answer this, Milgram selected 40 members matured somewhere in the range of 20 and 50 years of age and taught them to attract parts to help choose whether they were the instructor or student, in the experiment. 2The educator was taken by an analyst into a little room and plunked down before an electric 'stun generator' and a column of changes set apart from 15 volts (Slight Shock) to 375 volts (Danger: Severe Shock) to 450 volts (XXX).They were tol d to peruse a not insignificant rundown of word sets to the student, who sat in a different room next door.If the student speculated effectively they'd press a catch and move onto the following rundown of word sets. If not, the instructor would convey an electric stun to the student 15 volt increases as far as possible up until 450 volts.Unknown to the members, the examination was phony: the subject was consistently the educator and the student (a confederate called Mr. Wallace) was never really stunned by the electric switches.Up until the stun level of 300 volts, the instructor would hear the student beating on the divider, shouting out in torment, griping about their heart condition and declining to address addresses any longer. After this stun level, the student would no longer react to electric shocks.Whenever the member wouldn't convey the following round of stuns, the scientist would give a progression of four goads all together: if you don't mind proceed, the investigation ex pects you to proceed, it is significant that you proceed, and you have no other decision however to continue. The try finished at whatever point the educator wouldn't partake any more or 450 volts electric stun was conveyed three times. The consequences of the test was shocking.65% (66%) of the members directed the most significant level of electric stun? 450 volts. All members proceeded until in any event 300 volts. There have been a few follow up studies to check the trial, yet the end continues as before: people will in general follow orders given by a power figure, regardless of whether it costs someone else's life. 3According to Milgram's office hypothesis, thoughtless dutifulness to power has been instilled from birth through family, school and the work environment, so as to keep up social request inside our various leveled society. 4In his great book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (audiobook), Dr. Robert Cialdini proposes that authority is one of six triggers that impa ct us to state yes when we mean no.The other five triggers are: Reciprocation: We will in general feel obliged to return favors offered to us. I instantly knew I couldnt trust you How and why I was wrong

I in a flash realized I was unable to confide in you How and why I wasn't right I immediately realized I was unable to confide in you How and why I wasn't right Realizing whom to trust is a significant social and business ability. Yet, it isn't so straightforward â€" in spite of the fact that it is quick. It took me just seven seconds to evaluate your certainty, skill, status, amiability, warmth, and, truly, your trustworthiness. You can't stop me (or anybody, so far as that is concerned) from settling on these on the spot judgment calls. The human mind is wired that way.Whenever we meet new individuals, our cerebrum consequently and quickly starts to arrange them here and there â€" male or female, same or unique, companion or adversary â€" so as to foresee what is probably going to occur straightaway. Since not many of us have the psychological deftness to deliberately see and procedure all the variables expected to make these figurings, we depend on appraisals, or theories, in view of our past encounters and assumptions. While these psychological alternate ways work sensibly well more often than not, they likewise leave us powerless against an assortment of judgment traps. When I chose not to confide in you, my judgment was impacted by the classification I put you in and the qualities I doled out to that classification. For your situation, I marked you as dishonest for five reasons â€" none of which had anything to do with your real trustworthiness.1. You weren't care for meThere is a notable guideline in social brain research that individuals characterize themselves regarding social groupings: Any gathering that individuals feel some portion of is an in-gathering and any gathering that avoids them an out-gathering. (You know, it's the us and them division.)Similarities cause us to feel great. We expect we comprehend what in-bunch individuals resemble â€" they're acceptable individuals, as are we. Contrasts, then again, make us somewhat watchful. At the point when we consider individuals to be a piece of an out-gathering, we are bound to pass judgment on them as untrustworthy.Because you didn't help me to remember myse lf, I considered you to be a piece of the less reliable out-group.2. You acted suspiciouslyWe all tend to make decisions about someone else's trustworthiness dependent on our thoughts of suitable conduct. This appears in lie location when we accept that we realize how we'd act in the event that we were coming clean â€" and that other honest individuals would/ought to act the equivalent way.You didn't act the manner in which I would when we met. At the point when you said you were glad to meet me, you didn't grin or offer to shake my hand. As a result of this off-putting conduct, I got dubious of your motives.3. You had low eyebrowsBy examining individuals' responses to a scope of misleadingly created faces, scientists in Princeton's brain science division found that faces with high inward eyebrows, articulated cheekbones, and a wide jaw struck individuals as reliable. Then again, faces with low inward foreheads, shallow cheekbones and a slender jawline were considered untrustworthy. Of course, I understand that eyebrow shapes and cheekbone unmistakable quality have no relationship with reliability. Be that as it may, the second I saw you, I unknowingly abrogated my objective psyche to make this intuitive judgment.4. You didn't make eye contactThe greatest non-verbal communication legend about trickiness is that liars maintain a strategic distance from eye to eye connection. While the facts demonstrate that a few liars think that its hard to lie while looking at you without flinching, different liars, particularly the most audacious, really overcompensate to demonstrate that they are being honest by making solid, direct eye to eye connection and holding it steadily. You may have been modest, or a loner, or from a culture wherein direct eye to eye connection is viewed as scary or inconsiderate. Yet, all I saw was that you didn't take a gander at me when you talked, and that made me think you were being beguiling or, at any rate, not really put resources into what you were saying.5. You had your hands in your pocketsHand and arm signals are not just a subordinate to discourse; motioning may have been our most established strategy for correspondence. Analysts currently accept that early people conveyed utilizing a type of emulate. Some place in our transformative history discourse took over from motion as the primary type of correspondence, yet motion despite everything holds its capacity as artists and trust indicators. While I would have assessed your open palm motions as a nonverbal sign that you didn't have anything to stow away, your disguised hands made it hard for me to trust you.But since I know you, I see that you are real, genuine, and profoundly dependable. I've discovered that choosing whether or not to believe somebody by the underlying impression they make, is a procedure that can, and regularly should, be revised.Carol Kinsey Goman, Ph.D., is a worldwide keynote speaker and administration nearness mentor. 5 Ways Employer Can Create a Good First Impression

5 Ways Employer Can Create a Good First Impression The interview process is obviously a time consuming and costly one and therefore the ideal scenario is to find a candidate who fits the bill the first time around. Of course if that person doesn?t walk through the door then re-running the process is disappointing but essential. But what if you offer the job to someone that you really wanted and they turn you down because of a negative impression you or someone else within your organisation had given them? You may never actually find out the real reason, but to hear that the cause could have been avoided would be extremely frustrating. Therefore it is essential that you are ready to show yourself and the company in the best light from the moment the ideal candidate arrives. Unfortunately even Russell Grant would find it difficult to predict who this is and when they might appear. Here are a few tips to ensure that you are firing on all cylinders and are immediately creating a positive impact whenever ?the one? may arrive. 1) First impressions: There is an old saying that it only takes 90 seconds for an interviewer to make up their mind about an interviewee, so surely it must be equally quick for an interviewee to make up his or her mind about an employer. First impressions count, so make sure that your front of house (receptionist, secretary etc?) is fully briefed regarding the arrangements for the interviews. There is no better way of creating an initial bad impression for candidates (except maybe slapping them with a wet fish as they come through the revolving door) and demonstrating an uncommunicative organisation than the first person they encounter not knowing who they are or why they are there. To avoid the receptionist having to desperately ring around to find out what?s happening, provide them with all the information they need in advance including: Who the candidates are What position they are applying for What time their interviews starts Who to contact when they arrive Whether or not they have arranged a car parking space If reception can pre-empt the candidates as they arrive: (You  must be Lotta Potential, you?re here for an interview  for the Marketing Manager position. Did you get parked alright? Please take a  seat. Your interview isn?t for another 20 minutes, would you like a drink? You  look a little peaky, would you like to lie down?) then this will create the impression of a slick organisation. Also, if the candidates are providing a presentation and are bringing memory sticks which need virus checking, arrange for the receptionist to organise this while the candidates are waiting so that the interview can start immediately at the appropriate time. 2) Inspect the room: Before the first interview of the day, it is vital that you allow enough time to check the interview room in the first instance. By arriving only minutes before the first interview you will potentially have to clear up (or if you are lucky enough to be arranging for someone to do it for you,) which can make you behind schedule before the process has even started. An even bigger no-no is to bring the first candidate directly to the meeting room without checking the room at all, as you could potentially find the remnants of whatever the previous occupiers have been up to. It is also essential that you allow enough time between interviews. Time is needed to make notes on the previous candidate, remove used glasses, put the notes and CVs of other candidates out of sight and wipe away any tears from the table top (theirs or yours). 3) Check the tech: If you are using technology within the interview make sure the laptop/projector/TV work perfectly before the interviews get underway. There is nothing more awkward than making small talk with a candidate while Malcolm from IT rummages around under the table looking for the appropriate cables. Also, plug in the laptop rather than relying on the battery life and if the laptop has a stand-by or locks out after a certain period of time then switch these features off during the interview process. In case a ?lock-out? does occur, make sure you have the appropriate password in advance if it isn?t your own computer. 4) Be prepared: If you were ever in the Cubs or Brownies you will know this already, but preparation is key. Read a candidate?s CV thoroughly before the interview and prepare any questions that you want to ask them specifically so that you can give them your full attention whilst conducting the interview itself. It can be extremely off putting for candidates if you are desperately flicking through their CV during the interview looking for your next question whilst they are delivering their carefully constructed answer which could be the key to their future. Also, it may seem basic, but make sure you have the answers to all the simple questions the candidate may have regarding the organisation and the benefits of the job. Not knowing the company? turnover or whether the job comes with private health care may leave you sitting there with a significant amount of egg on your face. 5) Create a real  impression: We have all heard of nightmare dates where the date in question has made certain enhancements to themselves and hasn?t turned out to be entirely what the person expected them to be. Of course, it is important to show yourself and the organisation in the best light, but it is pointless making out you or the business are something you are not in order to increase the attractiveness of the offer to the candidate. At best the chosen candidate will feel like they have been tricked once they start work and this may have an immediate impact on their motivation. At worst the candidate will hand in their resignation right away or shortly after starting which means that you will have to go through the whole recruitment process once again. With experience comes  increased wisdom slackness: Unfortunately from my experience the more senior you get and the more interviews you carry out the more likely it is that you will overlook many of the points above. As interviewing becomes a chore rather than a new experience and there are increasingly important demands on your time, it is easy to overlook how costly the interview process is and how important it is to find the right candidates for the business at all levels within the organisation. Senior employees will read CVs last minute, won?t check rooms and turn up to interviews at the last minute or even late. So even if you are an old hat at interviewing, it is worth check boxing the above points once again in order to project a shining reflection of the organisation. Power Words Resume Writing

Power Words Resume WritingMaking the power words resume stand out in the crowd can be an uphill battle. Why should a resume writer care about what power words you use?First, because some people prefer 'Standard English' over 'Power Words'. When one company says 'John Smith' and another says 'John Smith' they mean two different things. When using a generic resume, you might want to be able to spell the name of the person you are covering.By using these words, your writer can remember the name of the person when they see the resume in a PDF file. And, in some cases, that will be the only time you will ever need to see them. Then there are the people who never have to use the word 'you'. Maybe they live in California or are Jewish, or something else completely different. For these people, power words resume writing will probably not be that important to them.If a large company sends you a resume that has the word 'you' in it, you should give them a call. It is almost as if your resume wa s sending a message to you. Just because you have no idea what their business is, does not mean they do not exist. The biggest misconception is that a person's brain is programmed to think in keywords and sets of letters. Yes, it works that way. But, it also has to remember the power words, especially if you are writing a resume for a manager.A person's brain is highly specialized. When you are applying for a job, you probably have a lot more information at your disposal than you can fit into one paragraph. Having one sentence will work for most people.Making a resume has a way of becoming a very big part of the decision making process. You need to make sure that you are accurate and that your writer can write from the heart. Using the power words, 'you', 'your', 'yourself', or even 'I' can all help to get you that 'first interview'.

Fitting Breast Cancer Awareness Into Your Daily Routine

Fitting Breast Cancer Awareness Into Your Daily Routine For professional women, life is full of responsibilities and concerns.   Your head is likely filled with thoughts of your job, your family, andâ€"if you have timeâ€"your social life.   With all of this going on, you may feel as if you dont have time to think about anything else, least of all your health, but it is incredibly important that you make time for your personal wellbeing.   After all, breast cancer treatment is far more time-consuming than early detection measures, and cancer will permanently affect your ability to be the best wife, mother and friend that you can be. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this disease, which affects nearly a quarter-million women every year, is one of the easier ones to detect.   So stop thinking that you don’t have time for your health, and learn how to fit detection and education into your daily routine. In the Shower If you dont have time for a regularly-scheduled mammogramâ€"which is recommended once a year after the age of 40, or earlier than that if you have a family or personal history of breast cancerâ€"then at least take the time to do a self-exam.   This can be done in the shower, in front of a mirror, or while lying down.   (Alternately, you can educate your partner on how to do it, and play a rousing game of Doctor!)   If you feel a lump, then schedule an exam with your doctor right away for a mammogram. On Your iPhone Susan G. Komen Tidewater, who is dedicate to combatting breast cancer, has developed an iPhone app that helps you stay up-to-date about current events, while connecting you to others and providing support and resources.   Up to 75% of the net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health health education and breast cancer screening, and treatment programs for medically underserved women, and the remaining net income supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards, and educational and scientific programs.   In other words, not only can you stay up to date with breast cancer-related issues, but you can help out several worthy causes while you’re at it. On Your Computer Theres more to staying healthy than just exams, however.   It is also important that you educate yourself as much and as often as you can on this subject.   Much of this can be done from the comfort of your home.   In addition to self-education via Google and other search engines, and signing up for monthly newsletters and updates, you can also register for educational webinars that cover everything from nutrition and supplements to information on specific types of breast cancer. In Your Spare Time In addition to detection and education, it is important to find time for fundraising for breast cancer causes.   This doesnt have to mean writing a check or breaking out the plastic, though.   Instead, why not participate in a breast cancer fundraising event?   Susan G. Komen has the Race for the Cure, and the National Cancer Society has the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, both of which are walks that promote awareness while raising much-needed funds for breast cancer research and treatment. As you can see, there are many ways in which you can find time to detect and combat breast cancer, without having to sacrifice time for your family, career, and social life.   With all of these options to choose from, theres no longer an excuse to not find time for your health.   Youre worth it!

Our Professional and Personal Lives are Blending

Our Professional and Personal Lives are Blending Sharing information is a personal value of mine. I hope that by sharing information that people reading it or hearing it will come up with solutions or new approaches or innovation of some sort that will improve how we all are doing things. This week, I was hit over the head by some information and it forced me to think about the advice Ive been giving job seekers. Previously, Ive held the belief that a job seeker needs to fit into the employer mold. Well, kind of. The job seeker needs to give the employer what they are looking for and my recommendation has always been to keep your personal stuff, personal. However, personal and professional seems to blur a lot lately. Sometimes it is difficult to draw the line. Is the fact that I am a mother relevant to my future employer? No, not unless my new employer is an advocate of families or mothers. But it is a crime to let people know I am a mother? I used to believe the answer was almost yes. If you are confused, I am too. Social media or change in societal norms is changing my outlook. What I mean is, you see and hear people sharing both their professional and personal stuff on social media. Is that wrong? The old me says yes, the new me says, I dont know. Chris Brogan is in the forefront of social media. If you take one look at his blog, you will see the blending going on. He merges professional and personal. Please, go read Chris Brogan. I think it is partially fair to say that this merging/blending of the two is how we start building trust. Trust is key to building relationships. What really got me thinking was this post my friend (Mike Lally) forwarded to me. It is an interview with Seth Godin by J.T. ODonnell. Seth is a great thinker. Here are some of the topics Godin brings up: You’ve Been Brain-Washed Seduced…It’s Time to Fight Back! Why Career Labeling Stinks What to Do About It Older Generations: Safe Doesn’t Cut It Anymore Get Fearless, Get Reckless So what this post is really about is understanding how and maybe why things are different today. We all want to succeed, but we need to understand that perhaps the rules are changing. Perhaps our definition of success needs to be re-evaluated. Perhaps our goals are no longer realistic in todays world. We cant change the world, we can adapt.

100 things about me - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

100 things about me - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Hans Henrik H?jberg is asking people to write 100 things about themselves, and submit it to him. So I did, and here it is, in danish. 20.Et par rigtig gode b?ger: ?Life after god? af Douglas Coupland, ?Choke? af Chuck Palahniuk og ?The world according to Garp? af John Irving. ?The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides? osv (Ezekiel 25:17). 32.Til geng?ld kan jeg ikke huske f?dselsdage og navne. ?Down By Law? af Jim Jarmusch, Moulin Rouge (Baz Luhrman) og Fantasia/2000 (Disney). 35.Den seneste film jeg har set er Catch me if you can. ?Its amazing how much trouble you can get yourself out of, simply by assuming that everything will be fine. And how much trouble you can get yourself into by assuming the opposite.? 57.Det citat kommer fra min favorittegneserie, ?The Sandman? af Neil Gaiman. Pr?v is?r deres ?Albondigas?
